12th GRADE COLLEGE PLANNING INFORMATION: Senior year is about "executing" the junior year plan. Senior year is a very busy time and students need to stay on track in order to meet deadlines.
FALL
---Stay on track academically. Continue taking challenging courses and putting forth the effort to be
successful. While students begin the application reporting grades 9-11 senior year grades will still be
reported at mid-year and then again final grades.
---Meet with your counselor to review your graduation plan and your goals and plans for the year. Discuss
any issues you would like addressed in the college application process.
---Finalize the college lists and continue to visit those you will be applying to. Attend the Financial aid sessions offered to ensure you understand the scholarship and aid process at each college.
---Finalize your resume listing all activities and awards in 9th through 12th grade.
---Re-take any college entrance exams for improvement (if needed). Also make time for practice and prep.
---Ask personally for letters of recommendation (if required) including deadline and the process for
submission.
---Begin your scholarship search--review information sent through Seminar.
---Complete your college application on time.
--Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)--opens October 1st.
---Create a decision-making tool once the acceptance letters are received.
---Register and prepare for any SAT 2 Subject Tests.
WINTER
--- Check on your applications and patiently await a decision. Watch your email closes and/or your college
"prospective" student account for notifications and response accordingly.
---Enter information into your decision-making tool as the acceptance letters arrive.
---Send Mid-year transcripts/grades to colleges (if required).
SPRING
---Watch your email and college accounts for notification.
---Compare Financial Aid packages
---Make your final decision (last day May 1st). Use the decision-making tool and criteria you set in making
this decision.
---Complete any admission paperwork from the college of your choice such as housing deposit, roommate survey, health forms, freshman orientation dates, etc.
---Complete any financial aid paperwork from the college of your choice.
---Prepare for and take AP and IB Exams. Certain scores may earn college credits which may save you money.
SUMMER
---Send AP and IB Scores to college admission for credit consideration
---Send final transcript to college admission you will be attending.
---Attend Freshman Orientation
---Pay for first semester.
